It was an ordinary recess break. Louise, Amy and I were talking beside our lockers and then Penelope and her gang came along. This time, a pink koala was with them.
"Hey girls! This is... Oh what was your name?" Penelope said asking the koala.
"Stephanie. I was sooo popular at my old school." she said. Of course, we didn't care. We were ABOUT to turn around and go back to our conversation when Jasmine said...
"Jessie, go to the kid who does my homework. I need my science stuff back."
"Oh the orange elephant? He's so dumb. Why let him do your homework?" Jessie asked.
"To make him feel good about himself. His brothers can't stand up for him forever. Plus, I did my own copy of the science thing. I'll just tell him I aced it!"
I heard sniffling beside our lockers. I saw an orange trunk. I knew it was Ernest.
"HIS NAME'S ERNEST AND BTW, HE'S REALLY GOOD AT MATH!" I said feeling like an exploding can of soda.
Penelope's gang looked shocked. So did my friends. When I realised that everyone heard me, I felt my cheeks get hot.And then I heard applause. The sniffling stopped. I may have gotten detention for shouting in the hallway (really loud that the kindergartens who were learning about shapes couldn't hear their teacher speak) but I knew I did the right thing. Plus everyone who I met in the hallway whispered to me that I was really brave. It felt good.
